Top 3 Home Repairs to Complete During Quarantine
Happy Thursday everyone!!!
I don’t know about y’all, but the quarantine can get a little hectic… between cleaning, working, trying to find a safe place to shop for groceries, and of course the mask vs. no mask controversies on your Facebook News feed, it’s enough to make your head spin! However, with this extra time, you might have found that you finally have time to get a few things done around your home that you haven’t been able to get to before now. You also may have realized that you are ready to sell your home, and you need to get it ready to put on the market!
I’m going to discuss the TOP 3 REPAIRS you can do while at home during quarantine! These require few supplies, so you won’t have to worry about going out unnecessarily!
1. Caulking around bathtubs, showers, and toilets: I cannot tell you how often caulking shows up on home inspection reports. I know it seems small, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s very important to maintain caulking around these places! Caulking keeps mold, mildew, and moisture out of places you don’t want it, along with providing a clean, finished look! You can order caulk online off Amazon, stand in line at A big box store ;) or shop at a LOCAL hardware/supply store near you! If going to the store, just tell them the color you want and let them know where you are using it because there are specific types for different jobs. Real talk...at this point, I’d rather sit and talk about caulk colors and sealants, than to sit around my house watching another reality show!
2. Filling Cracked Concrete and/or Bricks: This is another popular item that will usually always show up on home inspections! I sold a home last summer, and this exact thing was on our list of repairs from the purchaser. The sellers had missing bricks on their old retaining wall and a missing brick on the stairs leading to the front door! It was a SIMPLE FIX, but they just didn’t see it as important until it was pointed out to them! I think the biggest task in this repair is matching and scraping the mortar so it does not look sloppy. Be sure to grab a hat, an ice-cold beverage, and turn up the jams while you fix your brick work! Cracked concrete in the driveway is also a big issue, and even a crack on your slab foundation. Anytime you have a crack in foundation/ground area, it’s a GREAT idea to have a foundation company check to make sure that there is not a bigger issue at hand. Those can be big ticket items if ignored!!
3. Declutter items in your closets, basement, attic, or really any storage spaces: Clutter kills deals before they even happen!! That junk room/office you haven’t touched in years needs just as much attention as the rest of your home! Buyers remember your messy junk room and your sweaty, smelling home gym. I strongly suggest renting a POD, staging the home professionally, a good deep cleaning, all while decluttering and organizing! When you are de cluttered, your home appears bigger, brighter, and MPRE welcoming. Clutter is very hard for most buyers to look past because it makes rooms look and feel smaller than they really are and makes what could be a bright, large, enjoyable space feel dark and cramped. Remember when you go to put your home on the market, you aren’t selling your personal items and your modern decor, you are selling your house, the actual bones of it, to someone who is looking to make their own memories!
If you are looking to get real crazy! Here is a BONUS ITEM…
*BONUS* Replace any Rotted Wood from Home or Fence: WOOD ROT IS A VERY POPULAR REPAIR ITEM! Replacing wood rot comes up on almost all home inspections! Some rotted wood you can fix yourself, but some you might need to call in an actual contractor! Wood rot can be caused by too much sun or water, but sometimes it is just normal wear and tear over the years that causes it. Regardless, it’s a good thing to get it taken care of early and not deal with it during your home selling process!
